Residents of Lake Anne Plaza woke up Tuesday morning to discover a paddleboarding party happening outside their windows. (And some of them hurried out to join the fun.) Dozens of local SUP (stand-up paddleboarding) enthusiasts had gathered to demonstrate variations of the sport for the CBS morning show “Great Day Washington.”
The show’s lifestyle correspondent, Meaghan Mooney, interviewed Steve Gurney, the owner of Surf Reston, about the types of paddleboarding his business makes available on Reston lakes. There were demonstrations of AcroYoga (acrobatic yoga), paddleboarding dogs, and opportunities for children. There were some astounding balancing feats and hilarious splashes during the filming.
The film crew was unable to acquire a live broadcast signal, so the event will be aired on a future date. Stay tuned to Modern Reston’s Facebook page for more information about how you can see the coverage on TV.
In the meanwhile, take a look at our photos of all the action. You can find lots more on our Facebook album. Then head outside and enjoy this Reston summer while it lasts.
Surf Reston offers paddleboard classes on all four of Reston’s lakes, with instruction for a variety of ages and skill levels. See their website for more information.
