We’re sorry to see summer go, but September brings some of our area’s greatest events. The Lake Anne Jazz and Blues Festival and the Reston Multicultural Festival will help to cure those back-to-school blues. Here’s what’s happening this month in Reston, Herndon, Great Falls, and surrounding areas of Northern Virginia.

Prepare for ChalkFest with this free workshop led by by chalk artist Patrick Owens.
Reston Concerts on the Town Series: David Akers and the Soul Shakers

Herndon Labor Day Festival
11am-5pm: Herndon Town Green, 777 Lynn Street, Herndon
The annual Labor Day Festival features unlimited Virginia wine tastings, craft beers, music, a craft show, sponsor gallery, and food vendors. Admission is $20, and children 12 and under are free.
New Castle Clips Beer & Film Tour
7pm-10pm: Market Street in Reston Town Center
A coast-to-coast show brings New Belgium beer offerings paired with inspiring short films, traveling tricks and contests. Attendance is FREE. 100% of proceeds from beer sales benefit Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling.
Opening Reception: Ephemeral
6-9pm: Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE), 12001 Market Street, Reston
This art exhibit will explore the nature of non-permanent, three-dimensional work addressing the concept of ephemerality, whether conceptually, through site-specific works, or through the nature of the materials. Exhibit will run through November 14, 2015. FREE and open to the public.

RA’s Community Yard Sale
8:30am-12pm: Reston Association, 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston
95 families will be selling a variety of items. Register online to reserve a space for selling.
Chesapeake Dock Dog Diving Demonstration
1-4pm: Lake Anne Plaza
Champion trained dogs will entertain the crowds by leaping into the lake. The event also features adoptable dogs, “Ask the Trainer,” and pet product representatives.

Film: A Bird in the Hand: Patrick Dougherty’s Sculptural Installation in Reston, VA

This festival is another Modern Reston favorite! The festival features live music and dance performances, a naturalization ceremony, an international book fair, arts and crafts, an art exhibit, and food from around the world. New this year is the “We Make Reston” community art exhibit.
Walk to End Alzheimers
8:30am: Reston Town Center
Support the Alzheimers Association with this 1- or 2-mile charity walk. Walk begins at 10am. Register on site at 8:30am, or online.
Bike Tour d’ Art
9-11am: Lake Newport Tennis Court parking lot, Reston
A guided bike tour of Reston’s paths will lead participants to Reston’s featured art works, including murals and commissioned sculptures. Contact [email protected] to register.
OktoBREWfest 2015

Stride Forward 5K Run/Walk and Family Health Fair

Pediatric Specialists of Virginia’s will hold its first fundraiser to benefit children under their care. Strollers and pets welcome. Family Health Fair activities include giveaways, health tips, recreation, kids’ activities, food and music.
NatureFest 2015

Explore various nature stations throughout the park including butterflies, bees, life in the meadow, web of life, and much more. Live animal shows throughout the day. FREE.
