The Fourth of July takes place on a Saturday this year, which means we have a three-day weekend to enjoy! Here are some holiday celebrations for you to check out on July 3rd and July 4th in Reston, Vienna, Herndon, and Great Falls.
FRIDAY, JULY 3, 2015
Rockin’ Independence Eve Fireworks Show
7pm-dark: Vienna Town Green, 144 Maple Ave. East, Vienna
A live concert by Fat Chance will start the festivities, and a fireworks show will close the night. FREE.
Fifth Anniversary Celebration at Kalypso’s Sports Tavern
5pm-1:30am: Lake Anne Plaza, Reston
Kalypso’s will begin the holiday weekend with a beach party that will include fire dancers, steel drums, a blues band, and a huge sand box with beach balls.
World Police and Fire Games
Show your patriotic spirit by cheering for team USA. The 2015 WPFG is a series of athletic competitions that take place in locations throughout Northern Virginia, including the following events in Reston. Full schedule available here. FREE and open to the public (costs may apply for refreshments and amusements).
- Ice hockey: 8am-10pm (Reston Skatequest)
- Rowing: 10am-6pm (Hyatt Ballroom, Reston Town Center)
- Triathlon: July 3, 7am-12pm (South Lakes High School)
- Live entertainment and amusements in the Athletes Village at Reston Town Center
SATURDAY, JULY 4, 2015
Independence Day Fireworks, Food, and Family Fun at Lake Fairfax Park
7am-10pm: Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston
Spend the Fourth of July at Lake Fairfax Park. Splash at the Water Mine water park, take carousel and boat rides, enjoy puppet shows and live bands. Stay for the fireworks at 9:15pm. Most activities are FREE, but there are fees for the carousel and Water Mine.
Firecracker 5K for the Troops
8am: Reston Town Center
Show your support for your favorite branch of the military, and run with your best patriotic gear along a 5K route through Reston.
RA Pool July 4th Celebration
12-4pm: Lake Newport Pool 11601 Lake Newport Road, Reston
Come to the pool and enjoy the festivities before the fireworks. They will have a DJ, contests and prizes. Pizza, popcorn and cotton candy will be available for purchase. This program is cancelled in the event of rain. FREE with RA pool pass.
Fourth of July at Kalypso’s Sports Tavern
4pm-1:30am: Lake Anne Plaza, Reston
Starting at 4pm, a DJ will be playing beach music on the patio. A DJ will play party music inside starting at 9:30pm. Kalypso’s will transform its outdoor patio into a beach with a huge sand box and beach balls. Lake Anne’s unofficial fireworks are likely to be visible from Kalypso’s.

Unofficial fireworks in Reston
Around 9:30pm: Lake Anne, Lake Audubon, and Lake Thoreau
Neighbors in these areas are likely to launch fireworks over the lakes. These shows are not officially sanctioned by the authorities, but they can be really fun to watch.
Great Falls Fourth of July Hometown Celebration, Parade, and Fireworks
8am-dark: Great Falls Village Center, Great Falls
The festivities begin with a 5K race at 8am, and then a children’s parade at 9am. The main parade begins at 10am. Afterward there will be food, music, and games in the afternoon, and then a fireworks show at night. FREE.
Vienna’s Red, White & Blue on the Green
12-5pm: Vienna Town Green, 144 Maple Ave. East, Vienna
Celebrate the Fourth with BBQ, a chili dog contest, kids’ activities, and more. FREE.
Herndon’s July 4th Celebration
7pm-10pm: Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Ave, Herndon
Bring the family for live music, games, arts and crafts, and a fireworks show. FREE.
