2015 is almost here! If you are still looking for ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve, we have lots of ideas for you. Here are events for December 31, 2014 in Reston, Herndon, Vienna, Falls Church, and other parts of Northern Virginia.
ArtSpace Herndon
750 Center Street, Herndon
Herndon’s downtown art center hosts a gala each New Year’s Eve. This year’s theme is a musical celebration of the blues. A series of events will take place at ArtSpace Herndon, including activities for children, families, and adults.
7:00-8:30pm: African Drum & Band Workshop
Local folk musician Bill Davis will lead a drum-making art project starting at 7:00 pm. Children ages 4-14 will make West African djembe drums, and younger children will make shake instruments. Then at 7:30, acoustic blues band Herbie D & the Dangermen will host a musical workshop for kids to use their newly made instruments. $10 per family. Reservations are recommended.
8:30-10:00pm: Bonfire with Drum Circle
The public is invited to bring musical instruments to this drum circle around a bonfire outside ArtSpace Herndon. The bonfire is free.
10:00pm-12:30am: A Night of Blues
ArtSpace Herndon will ring in the new year with a concert and dance party featuring the blues music of Herbie D & the Dangermen. Refreshments will include barbeque by Herndon’s JJ’s Deli, and a complimentary tasting of Lost Rhino microbrews. A cash bar will include microbrews and sparkling wines for toasting throughout the evening. $30 per individual, or $50 per couple.
Bar Louie

This bar, known for its creative cocktails, will host a New Year’s Eve party with a champagne toast, breakfast buffet, and live entertainment. $15.
Clyde’s of Reston
Reston Town Center
The annual New Year’s Eve Gala lasts from 10:00pm to 2:00am, and includes a premium open bar with heavy hors d’oevres, a DJ, and dancing. Champagne and party favors will be provided at midnight. Black tie/cocktail attire. $125. Reservations required.
Colvin Run Dance Hall Black and White Milonga
10201 Colvin Run Road, Great Falls
Dress up in something black or white for this dance party that includes a DJ, a champagne toast, hot hors d’oeuvres, and champagne punch. This 100-year-old dance hall will ring in the new year (literally) by ringing an old school bell at midnight. $20 ($15 for students).
First Night Alexandria
Various locations around Old Town Alexandria
This popular family-friendly all-day celebration includes a variety of performances and activities for people of all ages. Events begin at noon and continue throughout the day, culminating in a midnight fireworks show over the river. Tickets are $20, and children 12 and under are free. All events are family-friendly and alcohol-free.
First Night Vienna
Various locations around historic Vienna
A variety of venues will host concerts, dance parties, and children’s performances throughout the area of Vienna near the Freeman House. At midnight, help break a world record for the most people howling at the moon. All events are family-friendly and alcohol-free.
Kalypso’s Sports Tavern
Lake Anne Plaza, Reston
Starting at 4pm, Kalypso’s will serve a three-course dinner with wine pairings. The party starts at 8:00pm, when DJ Roman will spin dance music, while more than 30 HDTVs show the ball dropping in Times Square. Complimentary party favors and champagne toast will be provided.
The State Theatre: The Legwarmers New Year’s Eve Party
222 N. Washington St., Falls Church
Find your best neon tights and fingerless lace gloves, and dance along with the 80s cover band the Legwarmers. $50.
Vinafera Wine Bar and Bistro
11750 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston
Vinafera’s Chef Bo will present a three- or four-course meal, paired with perfect wines by the restaurant’s sommelier. Celebrations include a live band and a champagne toast at midnight. Reservations required.
Watch Night Falls Church
Various locations around the Crossroads area of downtown Falls Church
This free community event includes several performances and activities for families, including concerts, dancing, obstacle courses, a velcro wall, a scavenger hunt, and karaoke. Food vendors will be available. Events are free of charge.
